Chase Koepka endorses ‘fit’ Brooks Koepka for the US Ryder Cup team

The selection of Brooks Koepka’s team for the Ryder Cup has been a hot point of discussion for the past few months.

After months of speculation, reports suggest that the LIV Golf star will be chosen as the captain of the US team led by Zach Johnson. Before the election, Chase Koepka came out to defend his brother Brooks.

The younger brother of the reigning PGA Championship champion said the “fit” Brooks “deserves an election.” Chase, who endorses his older brother for the team, noted that Brooks has “played very well” in previous editions of the event and that he narrowly missed automatic qualification.

Speaking about the possible selection of Brooks Koepka for the US Ryder Cup team, Chase was quoted by the Daily Record:

“Brooks is my brother, but he deserves a Ryder Cup pick. Obviously he narrowly missed qualifying automatically, but what he did in the majors this year, he was runner-up at The Masters and won a third PGA Championship while playing very well in past Ryder Cups.

“My brother has shown that he’s back to his best and from talking to him, I know firsthand how much he wants to be a part of Zach’s team heading into Rome. The way he played this year and the way he gave a step forward To be so close at Augusta and then to see him win another PGA title was phenomenal.”

To further emphasize his point, Chase said his brother has “fully earned the selection” with his performances over the past 12 months. The 29-year-old even pointed out that people go “crazy” if they don’t see how good the LIV golfer is. He also stated that many US Ryder Cup players already want Brooks on the team.

It is pertinent to note that LIV Golf affiliate Brooks was among the top six qualifiers for Ryder Cup selections prior to the first FedEx Cup Play-Offs. However, the golfer was eliminated from the six and can now only Become part of the team as the captain’s choice.

The USA Ryder Cup team announcement will take place on Tuesday, August 29. Captain Zach Johnson will announce his full 12-man squad before next month’s Rome event at the PGA of America headquarters in Texas. The announcement will be made between 10 and 11 am ET.
