Newcastle’s dominant 29-10 win over the Rabbitohs is under scrutiny after Daniel Saifiti was reportedly given a test of an eight-tackle set.

The Sydney Morning Herald and 9News reporter Michael Chammas revealed the information during Nine’s coverage of the second game on Sunday.

“There was a try in the 55th minute for Daniel Saifiti who scored in a set of eight tackles,” Chammas said.

“It was a set of seven tackles, they restarted the set at the 20-meter line, came down the field and scored a try on Daniel Saifiti. He was 12-4 at the time, a pivotal moment in the match.”

South Sydney boss Blake Solley spoke to the Herald about the alleged incident.

“Make no mistake, the best team of the day won,” said Solly.

“The Knights deserved the two points, they were better and I don’t think this altered the result. I would hate to do anything that would take credit away from the Knights and the way they performed.”

“Having said that, we are entering the most important part of the season, and it is imperative that the game respond correctly to these decisions.”

NRL chief football officer Graham Annesley is likely to address the allegations during his media appearance on Monday afternoon.
