Spanish women’s coach Jorge Vilda is reportedly on the brink of being sacked as the fallout from the World Cup continues.

Spanish soccer president Luis Rubiales is expected to be sacked after he was sacked by FIFA and later ordered by top officials in the country to resign.

Rubiales drew a firestorm of criticism by kissing World Cup winner Jenni Hermoso on the lips without consent amid celebrations in Sydney, and also grabbing her crotch.

Coach Vilda, who had been at the center of controversy before the World Cup, was also penalized for appearing to be grabbing a colleague’s chest.

Now the BBC reports that the Spanish Football Federation is exploring the possibility of sacking Vilda.

The coach was seen last week applauding Rubiales as the embattled president delivered a bizarre and defiant speech.

There have been protests in Spain and around the world over the actions of Rubiales and Vilda, and 81 players in Spain – including the 23 members of the World Cup – have declared that they will not represent the country again until both are removed.

It was Rubiales who supported Vilda in 2022, when 15 top-tier players withdrew from the national team in protest of the coach’s behavior.

But Rubiales is expected to lose his job, while prosecutors have also raised the possibility of sexual assault charges over the incident with Hermoso.
